 Bridgestone Australia And New Zealand Factories Closing - Saturday, 24th October 2009
BRIDGESTONE Australia is to close its tyre manufacturing plant in Adelaide with the loss of 600 jobs.
The company said on Friday it would also close a tyre production plant in Christchurch, New Zealand with the loss of 275 jobs.
The company said it could no longer commercially justify the continued operation of the two facilities.
"As the last tyre manufacturer in Australia and New Zealand, we have worked hard over many years to avoid today's decision," senior executive director Andrew Moffatt said in a statement.
Bridgestone said all employees at both plants would receive their full entitlements.
The Adelaide plant will close by the end of April, 2010, with Christchurch to close by the end of 2009.

 Pirelli PZero Chosen For Top Prestigioous Cars - Thursday, 18th June 2009
Pirelli confirms its leadership as the tyre of reference for high performance cars, and its position as the top technological partner of the most prestigious car manufacturers, with these three aces: Alfa Romeo 8C Spider, Ferrari 599 HGTE, Aston Martin V12 Vantage. The three super sports cars will be launched in the next few days with Pirelli PZero tyres. The PZero is an Ultra High Performance product line developed for top-of-the-line high performance cars for the most demanding drivers.
Presented at the Geneva motor show, the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider will be launched officially at Balocco in the next few days with PZero tyres (245/35ZR20 and 285/35ZR20).
The PZero is the latest evolution in tyre design from the Pirelli research team. Covered by 5 patents, the PZero has an innovative compound, structure and tread design, and was specifically developed for the latest generation of high-performance cars to guarantee the greatest driving pleasure and safety.
The PZero, with an even sportier compound like the PZero Corsa, was chosen for the Ferrari 599 HGTE (245/35ZR20 and 305/35ZR20), while the British super-sport Aston Martin V12 Vantage went straight for the PZero Corsa (255/35ZR19 and 295/30ZR19).The PZero Corsa is the sports tyre of the PZero collection. The Lamborghini Countach had the widest rear tyres of it's time at a humongous 345/35R15.
A low 35 Series profile was, let's just say, exotic!
Later on a lot of supercar manufacturers followed suit.
Some examples include the:
* McLaren F1 with 315/45ZR17
* Ferrari F50 with 335/30ZR18
* Jaguar XJ220 with 345/35ZR18
* ...and so on.
While all of these were low profile, high performance Z rated tyres, nobody was prepared for the shock a small company out of South Korea. That has struggled and is slowly making it's mark in the performance tyre segment, was about to give.
They're available in a relatively modest size, going by current standards, measuring at a puny 385/15ZR22 for your fancy sports car!
They'll glide over most pot holes but if you happen to crush a bug while driving, you're going to end up with a shattered spine!

A true gentleman of the sport and a great man in person, Arthur was generous enough to sign autographs for star struck customers and his crook knees didnt stop him from posing for this shot! Arthur also told us to give a shout out to all the boys in the Aboriginal Dreamtime team taking on the NZ Maori at this years Rugby League World Cup in the curtain raiser too..Goodluck fellas!!

Hot on the heels of Dragons Matt Cooper and Dean Young and Bulldogs superstar Sonny Bill Williams dropping in, South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Roy Asotasi swung by to say hi and sus out some wheels for his ride.  Construction Begins - Thursday, 21st February 2008
The roof is off, the labourers are sweating and the bulldozers are in! Construction on Tempe Tyres new state of the art showroom has begun. We'll keep you updated with pictures and how the works going. At this stage construction will take approximately 6 months. The new showroom will showcase our entire range of wheels (right now we can only showcase about 50% of our stock). Finding the right choice for your car will never be easier. Display cars and Plasma screens will all be part of the new building which was modeled after contemporary and futuristic buildings in Dubai. Buying wheels will no longer be a choice, it will be an experience!
